Every time I get a request for a surprise engagement shoot from the guy popping the big question I get excited. As a professional photographer who has captured events with varying levels of foresight, I know that anything can and will happen to make that day one to remember. The planning for this shoot meandered through a series of calls and texts until we finally arrived at a plan which would be carried out on the rooftop of a downtown Denver hotel at which the couple was staying.

This is where it got interesting. I arrived early to scope out the environment and send him the exact location for the proposal. The hotel staff, however, wasn’t on board even though he had previously spoken with someone who approved it. After some sweet talking, I was finally allowed up to the rooftop and waited for the couple to arrive.

Thank God, everything went great, she said yes, and they loved the photos I captured of their big day. It doesn’t always work out great after hitting a few road blocks but I’m sure grateful when it does!
